Test the Color Before Painting a Room

Before spending the money on several gallons of paint and the time to paint a room, test the new color first. It can be difficult to imagine a whole room from a color swatch at the paint store. Instead of charging ahead and painting an entire room on the basis of a color swatch alone, buy a quart of the color being considered.  Paint sections of the walls, a portion on all four walls if possible.  Live with the color for several days or a couple of weeks. Look at the new color during all times of the day. Notice how the color changes from the early morning to evening. If after the test the color isn’t quite right, it’s easy to select a new color and try again. The only expense has been for a small amount of paint and the time saved from painting a complete room a color that didn’t appear as anticipated.
